Jimmy Carter Faithfully Teaches Sunday School Before Cancer Treatment

PLAINS, Ga. (AP) — A bigger-than-usual crowd is gathering at a church in Plains, Georgia, where former President Jimmy Carter is scheduled to teach a Sunday School class.

It is the first class Carter has taught at the Maranatha Baptist Church since Carter disclosed details of his cancer diagnosis and treatment at a press conference Thursday.

People began lining up outside the church at midnight, hoping to hear from the Nobel Peace Prize winner at 10 a.m. and stay for church services. A church member, Jan Williams, told the 300 people inside the church they were "blessed."

On Thursday, the 90-year-old Carter said he was to undergo intravenous drug doses and radiation treatment for four tumors on his brain and any other melanoma that doctors discovered in his body.
