Being the basketball fan he is, Barack Obama no doubt celebrated the recent news from his physician.
Over the past two years, the 54-year-old president not only lost 5 pounds but -- somewhat bizarrely -- grew half an inch, according to a medical report released Tuesday by the White House.
He is now listed as 175 pounds and 6 feet, 1.5 inches tall, compared to 180 pounds and 6 feet, 1 inch in May 2014. In that time, Obama also improved his body mass index from 23.7 to 22.8, and his resting heart rate dropped from 62 to 56 beats per minute.
It appears all that working out has paid off.
"The President's overall health remains excellent and is improved from his last formal assessment," presidential physician Ronny Jackson wrote. "His adherence to a healthy diet and a consistent exercise program has resulted in an improved lean body mass and lower cholesterol level."
Jackson didn't provide any insight into Obama's seemingly strange growth spurt. It could be the result of better posture, increased stretching or even human error. Most men, after all, stop actively growing when they're 17 years old.
But Obama isn't totally perfect. A former smoker, he continues to use nicotine gum on occasion and takes Nexium as needed for acid reflux symptoms, according to the report.
The recent checkup was Obama's fourth physical exam as president. And all clinical data, Jackson concluded, indicates Obama is "currently very healthy and that he will remain so for the duration of his Presidency."
